Admissions

Each year, the School will hold a recruitment period for students seeking to enter the ninth-grade class. The School will provide information sessions during the recruitment period, conduct presentations in the community, and hold tours for interested students and families. Following the recruitment period, the School will have a public lottery in a fair and blind manner using an independent observer. The School will offer a first admissions preference for a sibling of a student currently enrolled in the School and a second admissions preference to children who reside in Community School District Nine. Students not selected through the lottery will be placed on a waiting list in the order in which they are drawn and then, following the lottery, based on the date the School receives the application.

ATTENTION:

We are still accepting applications for our waiting list, so please fill out an application if you are interested in attending The Charter High School for Law and Social Justice.

Non-Discrimination Statement:

A charter school shall not discriminate against or limit the admission of any student on any unlawful basis, including based on ethnicity, national origin, gender, disability, intellectual ability, measures of achievement or aptitude, athletic ability, race, creed, religion, or ancestry. A school may not require any action by a student or family (such as an admissions test, interview, essay, attendance at an information session, etc.) for an applicant to receive or submit an application for admission to that School.

Lottery Process

The Charter High School for Law and Social Justice has 120 open seats for students entering the ninth (9th) grade. If the number of applications submitted exceeds the number of available seats, the School will conduct a random lottery to fill the seats.

The lottery is open to all students who reside in New York and submit a completed application by 5:00 PM on April 1; however, an admissions preference will be given to students who reside in Community School District where the School is located.

If a student does not receive a seat through the lottery, the student’s name will be placed on the School’s waiting list. The lottery will take place at a location and time determined between April 1 and April 15. This information will be available at least one week before the lottery.
