Upon returning to New York City in 2013, Ms. Crawford transitioned from being a classroom teacher to becoming an educational leader, by joining Ascend Public Charter Schools as a Dean of Students. The following year, she was chosen to become the Founding Dean of Students at Brownsville Ascend Middle School (BVMS). During her time at BVMS, she was featured in the Ascend's Quarterly Newsletter as the first feature leader. Some of Ms. Crawford highlights during her tenure at Ascend include developing a school-wide mentoring program, which linked middle school students with elementary school students (significantly decreasing the behavior referral rate), and the implementation of monthly field labs that granted students the opportunity to see New York City. In their opening year, BVMS was ranked 15 out of 405 NYC Middle Schools by the State of New York in terms of test scores for the founding sixth grade cohort.
Ms. Crawford's commitment to school culture through high academic expectations and continuous professional development have helped drive the achievement and social development for both former and current students, and staff members. As she moves into her 16th year in education, Ms. Crawford looks forward to continuing to be a driving force for a positive school culture and high academic achievement at CHSLSJ.
Ms. Crawford has a Bachelor of Art in Art Education from Virginia Union University and a Master of Education in Educational Leadership.
Ms. Crawford also volunteers for City Meals in East Harlem and enjoys traveling with friends and family in her leisure time. Ms. Crawford is also a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated, and National Urban League.
